Box Score HARROGATE, Tenn. - The Lincoln Memorial University men's tennis team fell to Belmont Abbey by a score of 5-2 at the Indoor Tennis Facility Thursday afternoon. With the loss, the team is now 1-2 on the young season.
Although
Jake Tuchmann and
Thom Hermans won at number two doubles, the Crusaders won the other two matches and took the crucial opening point. In singles play, there were several tight matches, but Belmont Abbey capitalized on several opportunities and won all but one. At number one singles,
Sebastian Colla fell in straight sets, but Tuchmann took the win at number two by a score of 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (8). With the wins, Tuchmann continued his undefeated start to the 2021 season.
Oscar Bailey also fell in straight sets, and
Thom Hermans found himself in a battle at the number four spot. After the first two sets saw the score tied at 7-6 (5), 4-6, the Crusaders' Renzo Fassioli won the tiebreaker. A
Nathan Cooper straight-set loss and a
Thomas Turner three-set win finished out the scoring.
LMU will look to bounce back quickly as they open conference play at home against Wingate this coming Sunday, Feb. 28. The match is scheduled to be contested at the LMU Tennis Complex at 2:30 p.m.
