CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial University women's lacrosse program (0-1) opened their 2021 season on Sunday afternoon with an 18-2 loss at Lee University (2-2).
THE RUNDOWN
Junior attack
Sierra Landsman notched the first goal of the 2021 season for the Lady Railsplitters. Landsman converted on a free-position attempt to tie the game at one apiece just three minutes into the contest.
Over the next 19:25 minutes, the Flames caught fire and produced a run of eleven-straight goals to take a commanding 12-1 lead before sophomore
Ali Van Der Ziel found the back of the net with just 3:45 left on the clock to cut the deficit to 10 before the break.
Lee went on to close out the game with six second-half goals and held LMU to zero second-half goals for an 18-2 final mark.
IN BETWEEN THE PIPES
LU – Kaleigh Bernard recorded 52 minutes of game play for the Flames with two goals against and five saves on the afternoon. Caleigh Smith closed the final eight minutes recording one save.
LMU – Senior
Micayla Starnes tallied seven saves during the season opener on Sunday.
TEAM STATS
LMU tallied 15 ground balls, 12 shots, seven draw controls, 10 successful clears (10/16), and converted on 25% of their free-position shots (1/4).
HEAD-TO-HEAD
Today's outcome marks the first loss to Lee University in a total of three outings as LMU drops to 2-1 all time.
