CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Playing their first match in 457 days, the LMU men's soccer team took on defending Gulf South Conference champion Lee on the road in exhibition action Tuesday evening and came away with a decisive 3-1 victory. The Railsplitters used 26 players in the contest, many of whom were seeing their first collegiate action.
Lee, who finished 12-4-5 (5-3-3 Gulf South Conference) last season and advanced to the national tournament, was a worthy adversary for the Railsplitters in their first action of the season and gave them a barometer for this season.
In a tightly contested first half, sophomore
Kasimir Lauber took the lid off with a goal at the end of the period, giving the Railsplitters the lead heading into the locker room. The Flames came out and tied the score, but two freshmen teamed up for what turned out to be the game-winning goal as
Hunter Oubre assisted
Will Arrowood for the score. LMU separated themselves even further later in the half as
Jorge Alencar assisted
Rodrigo Aguiar for the finale.
Depth played a key role all night long as the Railsplitters were able to substitute freely and get many players on the pitch for the first time in the Blue and Gray. After recording a tie against Lee last season at home, the team is showing excellent progress and the result shows that exciting times are ahead for the program.Â
