MARS HILL, N.C. - The Lincoln Memorial University men's soccer team traveled to Mars Hill on Thursday evening, but was unable to come away with the elusive road victory as the Lions won by a score of 3-0. With the loss, LMU drops to 1-1 in South Atlantic Conference play.
"We knew that the first 20 minutes would tell us a lot, and Mars Hill scored in the 21st minute," head coach
Robert Spain commented. "Tonight was a really good learning experience for a young team, as we haven't trailed on the road this season."
The Lions scored the first goal and kept the Railsplitters off the scoreboard in the first half, taking a one goal lead into the locker room. That lead was expanded with back-to-back goals halfway through the second period.
"I'm proud of our team, but games like this are important. All credit to Mars Hill for improving their team during a pandemic," Spain continued. "I'm excited that we get to play them again, and I'm looking forward to that matchup."
LMU will look to bounce back next Thursday, Mar. 18 as they take on Carson-Newman for the second time this season. The Railsplitters defeated the Eagles 1-0 in Jefferson City in the South Atlantic Conference opener.
