HARROGATE, Tenn. - Facing No. 16 Queens at home Sunday afternoon, the Lincoln Memorial University men's tennis team was unable to get much momentum and fell to the Royals by a 6-1 ledger. With the loss, the team drops to 5-8 (4-5 South Atlantic Conference) on the season.
Queens began the match by winning all three doubles matches to gain the early 1-0 lead, although
Iker Moure and
Sebastian Colla kept it close at the number one spot with a 6-4 loss. The Royals' early momentum carried into singles play.
"Queens was just too much for us today," head coach
Marc Walters commented. "We had solid play from Iker Mour,
Thomas Turner, and
Luca Pavan, but Queens never allowed us to get into a good rhythm."
Moure continued to battle hard at the number one spot in singles, but fell 6-4, 6-7, 1-0 in a tiebreaking third set. Queens continued their excellent play and won the singles matches at numbers two through five, but
Luca Pavan earned the lone point for the Railsplitters on the day with a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 win at number six.
"Luca pulled out a tiebreaker win to keep his recent winning streak going, and Iker contributed once again," Walters continued. "We have a quick turnaround against Anderson tomorrow, and it's a keu match for us to see how much we've grown this season."
LMU will take on Anderson on the road tomorrow, March 29. The match is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
