Box Score HARTSVILLE, S.C. - In a key road matchup for postseason purposes, the Lincoln Memorial University men's tennis team defeated Coker 4-3. With the victory, LMU improves to 6-9 (5-6 South Atlantic Conference) on the season.
The Railsplitters were dominant in doubles as they won all three matches to seize the early point.
Iker Moure and
Jake Tuchmann posted a clinical 6-2 victory at number one while
Fabian Sjokvist and
Sebastian Colla won 7-5 at number two and
Luca Pavan and
Thomas Turner managed a 7-6 victory at the number three spot. The 1-0 lead would come in very handy as the match went on.
"We got in position to win today by sweeping the doubles," head coach
Marc Walters said. "Any time you go on the road in this league, it's a grinder, and this is our second 4-3 victory of the season. These are the kinds of matches you have to win and this is a good stepping stone for our freshmen."
Although Coker won three singles matches, LMU got wins at numbers four, five, and six to get the 4-3 win. Tuchmann won 6-2, 6-4 at number four,
Thom Hermans won 6-1, 6-1 at number five, and Pavan was victorious 6-0. 6-0 in a dominant effort at the number six position.
"Today was a really nice day for Jake," Walters continued. "He stayed in control of his match from start to finish and stayed with his game plan. That was vintage
Jake Tuchmann and it clinched the match for us."
The Railsplitters will have a week off before finishing off the regular season at home against Newberry.
