Women's Soccer a Perfect 3/3 in SAC Fixtures

Lady Railsplitters defeat Newberry 3-1

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Lincoln Memorial University women's soccer team recorded their 15th-consecutive match of regular season fixtures unbeaten, notching their sixth undefeated performance of the 2021 fall campaign, defeating the Wolves of Newberry 3-1 on the road.

The Lady Railsplitters were all over the winless Wolves in the Palmetto state Saturday night, jumping out to a quick two-nil lead early on in the opening period of play. South Atlantic Conference star, senior Rachel Taylor, collected her sixth and seventh goal of the new season in Saturday's first half, scoring for the Lady Railsplitters in the 33rd and 37th minute.

LMU recorded the opening goal of the contest via the third assist of freshman Ryan Branson's career, as Taylor gave LMU the advantage in their first true conference road contest of the fall campaign. Taylor also scored the Blue & Grey's second just minutes later, as the Lady Railsplitters went to halftime up two-nil.

The determined Wolves came out of the locker room with a point to prove, pegging LMU with a goal back in the 46th minute. Despite Newberry pressure, LMU killed the game off in the 72nd minute, as Australian native Corrine Denton added the game's fourth and final goal, unassisted to finish the Wolves off 3-1.

Newberry broke up the three-match stretch of clean sheets for LMU, but the superb Lady Railsplitter defense has only conceded a total of three goals in six matches played in all competitions.
