LMU Women's Basketball Complete Fantastic Comeback to Defeat UVA-Wise

Lauren Flowers explodes for career-high 27 points as the Lady Railsplitters complete the season sweep of UVA-Wise

WISE, Va. – Playing in their first road game in over a month, the Lincoln Memorial women's basketball team got behind early, but never stopped battling. UVA Wise went up by as much as 17 points in the first half, the Lady Railsplitters came back to defeat the Cavaliers 67-59 behind a career-high 27 points from Lauren Flowers.
 
Irelynn Davisson got things started from the opening tip, knocking down a three-pointer on the Lady Railsplitters first possession. The Cavaliers responded with a 7-0 run to take the early lead before layups by Lauren Flowers and Lindsay Proffitt tied the game. The two teams traded buckets, but then Wise went on an 11-0 run to take a 20-9 lead. Addi Kirkpatrick struck right before the end of the quarter with an and-1 layup to bring the Wise lead back down to single-digits at 20-12.
 
The Cavaliers continued their first quarter momentum by starting the quarter on an 11-2 run to take a commanding 17-point lead. From that point on, it was all LMU, ending the quarter on an 11-3 run, highlighted by five points from Mikayla Kuehne and four points from Flowers, as they trailed 34-25 heading into the break.
 
The third quarter belonged to the Lady Railsplitters, as they exploded for 27 points in the period to take control of the game. LMU started the quarter on a 17-3 run to retake a lead that they would never relinquish again. Three-pointers from Proffitt, Alex Canady, and Davisson propelled the Blue and Gray to a 42-37 lead. Two makes more from behind the arc by Davisson and Kuehne down the stretch and a buzzer-beating layup by Flowers, giving her eight points for the quarter, gave LMU the 52-45 lead with 10 minutes to play.
 
Lauren Flowers took over in the fourth quarter, scoring 11 points in the period, helping secure the victory for the Lady Railsplitters. Davisson again started the scoring for LMU by knocking down another three-pointer to increase the lead to 10. The Cavaliers responded with a 7-2 run to cut it back down to five, before Flowers scored nine straight Lincoln Memorial points in between a couple Wise baskets and helped stretch the lead back up to nine. Despite the Cavaliers attempting a late run, free throws by Proffitt and Flowers sealed the deal for LMU.
 
Flowers led the Lady Railsplitter offense all night long, scoring a career-high 27 points, while adding four rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Irelynn Davisson knocked down four three-pointers to score 12 points, and also contributing four rebounds and four assists. Kuehne was the third player in double-figures, scoring 10 points, in addition to pulling down six boards. Lindsay Proffitt scored eight points and had a team-high six rebounds. Addi Kirkpatrick provided a spark off the bench with five points and three rebounds.

The Lady Railsplitters stay on the road to take on Catawba on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:00 PM in Salisbury, North Carolina. The Lady Railsplitters return home on Wednesday, January 26th to face Carson-Newman.
