Women's Basketball Unable to Keep up with Wingate

Davisson paces LMU with 18 points

HARROGATE, TENN. – The Lincoln Memorial women's basketball team was prepared for a battle when SAC leading Wingate came to Tex Turner Arena, and for three quarters the Lady Railsplitters were up for the challenge, but the Bulldogs proved to be too tough and pulled away in the fourth quarter to win 81-57.

The first quarter was back and forth throughout, and LMU was within one with six minutes left, after getting threes from Lauren Flowers and Mikayla Kuehne on back-to-back possessions. The Bulldogs twice pushed their lead up to six, but Irelynn Davisson answered back both times with deep threes, and Wingate ended the first quarter up 17-14.

The Lady Railsplitters started the second period hot, scoring on their first four possessions of the half, with a Flowers and-1 jumper giving LMU the lead 23-22. Flowers and Davisson both hit another three each in between Bulldog baskets to push the lead to three. Wingate ended the half on an 8-2 run to go into the break with a 34-31 advantage.

Davisson and Lexi Kiser opened the third quarter with back-to-back threes to give LMU the lead once again, but the Bulldogs answered right back and went right back in front. Another Mikayla Kuehne three brought the Splitters within one, yet once again the Bulldogs responded, this time with a 10-0 run to close the quarter and head into the fourth with a 57-46 lead.

Wingate controlled the fourth quarter from start to finish, outscoring the Lady Railsplitters 24-11 in the period. Kassidy Kenny provided a spark off the bench, scoring five points in the last couple of minutes, but Wingate just kept pulling away and closed out their 24-point victory.

Irelynn Davisson led the Lady Railsplitters with 18 points on 7-10 shooting, including 4-6 from deep. She also added three rebounds and two steals. Kuehne put in 12 points and dished out three assists. Lauren Flowers was the third LMU player in double-figures, scoring 11 points. Lexi Kiser came off the bench to score five and led the Splitters in rebounding with four.
