Dahling Leads Railsplitters to Win Over Bears

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial University men's basketball team captured their third straight win to open the 2022 year after defeating Lenoir-Rhyne, 93-62, on Saturday afternoon in Tex Turner Arena.
 
The Railsplitters (12-2, 9-2 SAC) went down early, but bounced back after shooting 55.6 percent in the first half to take a 48-30 lead over the Bears (3-11, 2-9 SAC) into the halftime break. The Splitters dominated the glass, grabbing 42 rebounds compared to just 28 by Lenoir-Rhyne. Lincoln Memorial was also a force on play down low as they tallied 48 points in the paint while the Blue and Gray defense limited the Bears to 24 paint points.
 
Junior Jordan Guest started things off just 13 seconds into the contest with a three-pointer, but Lenoir—Rhyne's Kevin Kangu answered right back. The Bears then stretched to a 10-5 lead before a 9-0 run by the Railsplitters gave LMU the lead right back. Both programs traded baskets before the Railsplitters were able to use a 21-5 run from 8:07 to 2:28 to create some separation. Lincoln Memorial went into the halftime break up 48 to 30.
 
Keeping the separation needed, the programs traded baskets to open the second half, but the Railsplitters used a 9-4 run over the middle of the half to push their lead to 70-46 over the Bears. Continuing their stout defense, Lincoln Memorial allowed Lenoir-Rhyne to hit just 27 percent of the three-pointers in the second half as they cruised to a 93-62 win over Lenoir-Rhyne.
 
Five Railsplitters paced the offense with graduate student Alex Dahling leading the way with 20 points with Guest following close behind with 16 points. Jordan Walters finished the afternoon with 14 points. Redshirt sophomore Chase Rankin tallied 11 points, while junior Martez Brown closed out the double-figure scorers with 10 points. Brown and Walters lead the defensive effort has both guys finished with seven rebounds.
