HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial men's basketball team took down in-state rival King 119-72 on Wednesday night in its home opener at Tex Turner Arena behind a balanced scoring effort.
The No. 6 Railsplitters (4-1) got out in transition early and often to build a sizeable first half lead, taking a 50-29 advantage after a Quay Kennedy dunk at the 4:23 mark and going into the break up 64-39. Their largest lead was 49 points after a Zaylan Chaney slam in the final minute of the game.
Six Railsplitters scored in double figures, while all 12 players who saw the court scored at least five points. Me'Kell Burries' 16 points paced the team, while Matthew Sells (14 points), Kennedy (12), Martez Brown (12), Jordan Guest (11) and Jordan Walters (11) contributed at least 11 each.
Brown also collected 13 rebounds for a double-double, while Chase Rankin stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, six rebounds and 11 assists.
The Railsplitters shot 68.8 percent from the field (44 of 64) and 52.2 percent from beyond the arc (12-23), while scoring 30 fast break points for the easy win.
The Tornado got 13 points from Michael Mays and 11 out of Brandon Lamberth, but fell to 0-3 on the season.
Next up for Lincoln Memorial is a game at North Georgia on Saturday at noon, which will serve as the first true road contest this season.
