EMORY, Va. – The Lincoln Memorial men's basketball team topped Emory & Henry 89-69 at the King Center on Saturday afternoon in its first South Atlantic Conference road game of the season.
The Railsplitters (9-1, 3-0 SAC) trailed 13-11 early after an 11-3 run by the Wasps (6-3, 0-2 SAC), but scored the next 13 points and also the final 12 points of the half to build a 50-23 lead at the break. Lincoln Memorial led by at least 20 points for the entire second half.
Me'Kell Buries provided a spark off the bench, particularly in the second period, to lead the Railsplitter offense with 18 points including 4-of-7 shooting on 3-pointers.
Jordan Walters (14 points, five assists),
Matthew Sells (13 points) and
Chase Rankin (11 points, six rebounds and four assists) also scored in double figures for Lincoln Memorial.
The Railsplitters shot an efficient 60 percent (36-60) from the field including 50 percent from distance (12-24). Lincoln Memorial outrebounded Emory & Henry 39-to-28 and outscored the Wasps in points in the paint (46-34) and fast break points (20-8).
This was the first time the Railsplitters and Wasps have played each other in men's basketball since 1977, with Emory & Henry joining the SAC this academic year.
Lincoln Memorial will return home to Tex Turner on Wednesday to host nonconference opponent Tennessee Wesleyan at 7 p.m.
