Guest Powers LMU Men's Hoops to Win over Newberry

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The No. 11 Lincoln Memorial University men's basketball program battled Newberry for 40 minutes and came away with a hard fought 74-61 victory over the Wolves on Saturday afternoon.
 
Junior Jordan Guest paced the Railsplitter offense with a game-high 26 points on 11-of-21 shooting from the field. The Rancho Santa Margarita, California native added seven rebounds and an assist. Redshirt sophomore Chase Rankin followed with 15 points, five assists and a rebound in the win.
 
Quandaveon McCollum paced the Wolves (11-11, 11-9 SAC) with 20 points and nine rebounds while TJ Brown followed with 15 points, two assists and a rebound. Newberry was forced into 14 turnovers on the afternoon, which allowed the Railsplitters to tally 17 points off turnovers in the contest.
 
The Wolves took a quick 8-4 lead into the under-16 media in the first, but the Railsplitters (21-3, 19-3 SAC) quickly answered, evening things up at 10 all on a jumper from Me'Kell Burries. The jumper from Burries sparked a 9-2 run to give the Splitters a 17-12 lead. Lincoln Memorial went onto hold the lead until the break, going up 36-29.
 
The Railsplitters were able to keep up the offensive pressure as they held a double-digit lead until Newberry was able to pull to within seven at the 11:32 mark. Lincoln Memorial soon again reached their double-digit lead as they went onto capture the win over Newberry, 74-61.

The Railsplitters will turn their attention to Thursday, February 17 when the Pioneers of Tusculum come to town. Tip off is slated for 7:00 p.m. ET with Senior Night beginning moments before tip.
