HARROGATE, Tenn. — LMU men's tennis lost the final match Sunday and dropped their dual to Young Harris by a 4-3 score.
The Splitters battled back from a 1-3 deficit to tie, but then came up just short as freshman
Harper Mills fell in a third set tiebreaker giving the Lions the win.
"It was a tough situation for Harper, and he held up very well under the pressure, "said head coach Mark Walters. "The level of the match came up significantly and in the end his opponent just made a couple more shots than he did."
After dropping the Doubles point, Fabian Sjökvist and
Thom Hermans got LMU on the board with wins at #2 and #3. Then freshman
Franco Battaglino added a 62 61 win at the #4 position to know the score at 3-3.
After losing in the first at 57, Mills stormed back to nab the second set 6-1, setting the stage for the match tiebreak. Mills fell behind early, 2–6, but battled back to trail by one at 7–8. However, that was as close as he would come as his opponent finish the match with consecutive winners.
"We played everybody this weekend, and we were able to get everyone some very challenging matches under stressful conditions, "said Walters. "It's a long season and all of these guys are going to be very important in our success. I'm sure we learn a lot today and I expect us to start building some momentum this weekend."
