No. 11 Softball Drop Opening Two Matchups at the Bearcat / Fleet Invitational

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The No. 11-ranked Lincoln Memorial University softball program (11-5, 0-0 SAC) were involved in two pitching duels in Friday's opening day of the Bearcat / Fleet Invitational, as starters Hayley Tamaro and Emma Frost threw a combined 15 innings, but fell short in both games versus Emmanuel College (Ga.) and Lander University.

Game 1 – No. 11 Lincoln Memorial fall to Emmanuel 3-1.

Senior Hayley Tamaro took to the circle in the opening contest for the Lady Railsplitters in South Carolina for the annual Bearcat / Fleet Invitational, as the senior made the second start of her 2022 campaign, producing a nine-inning performance, only allowing two-earned runs on two walks and four strikeouts.

In a matchup where the offensive sparks were limited, Emmanuel and LMU both tallied their only run in the opening seven innings of play in the first and second frame. Third baseman Kelsie Tuggle took Emmanuel deep in the second, evening the game at one run. Both Tamaro and Fairey threw six-consecutive shutout innings, as Emmanuel eventually scored the two go-ahead runs in the top of the ninth, and held the Blue & Grey off the board in the bottom half to seal the victory.

Game 2 – No. 11 Lincoln Memorial fall to Lander 2-0.

LMU's second matchup of the Bearcat / Fleet Invitational took place in the hosts' backyard Friday evening against Lander, as Lady Railsplitter ace Emma Frost came across just her second loss of the season, falling in yet another pitching duel and is now 6-2 overall on the young season.

Frost racked up six more innings pitched, allowing two runs off only three hits, walking four and striking out an additional six.

Sierra Hucklebee, Emma Webb, Kelsie Tuggle and Bella Buccellato were the only Lady Railsplitters to record a hit as LMU was shutout for the first time in 2022.

UP NEXT…
