Women's Tennis Falls Short Against Yellow Jackets

HARROGATE, Tenn. – Despite clinching three points in singles matches, the Lincoln Memorial women's tennis team fell, 4-3, on Saturday morning to West Virginia State inside the Indoor Tennis Facility.

"Overall, we learned a lot about our team today and what championship level tennis looks like," said head coach Mark Walters. "West Virginia took our best shot and punched right back, but we had opportunities and that's what we will try to emphasize for the future."

In the doubles matches, the duo of Laura Jipescu and Sophia Aray fell just short to Gaya Solomon and Chante Malo, 6-4, on court one, while the Splitter pair of Valentina Ascarrunz and Julia Valls captured the court two match, 6-4, over Lea Rolland and Tuva Wallin.

The court three doubles match needed a tiebreaker to determine who secured the doubles point, and West Virginia State powered through late as the duo of Maya Haidari and Emily Moore defeated Railsplitter duo Samantha Hogan and Keana Moon 7-6 (7-5).

Lincoln Memorial looked to make a comeback and capture the contest in the singles matches. Gaya Solomon of WVSU continued to be a dominant force for the Yellow Jackets as she was able to secure the victory, 6-0 and 6-2, on court one over LMU's Laura Jipescu.

The Railsplitters captured three singles points with veteran Julia Valls getting business done on court three with a 7-6, 6-1 win over the Yellow Jackets' Chante Malo. On court six, newcomer Kushi Khandoji continued to shine early for LMU, defeating Julia Daszkiewicz 6-0 and 7-5. Senior Amanda Dahlstrom battled to three points after Emily Moore captured the first point, 6-3, while Dahlstrom secured the second and third points, 6-4 and 6-4.

West Virginia State went onto capture the singles matches after Tuva Wallin defeated Valentina Ascarrunz in a close match, 7-6 and 7-5, while Maya Hairdari secured the win over Sophia Aray on court 4, 6-2 and 7-6.
