HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial University baseball program fell on Saturday afternoon at Lamar Hennon Field to Charleston in doubleheader action.
Game 1 – Charleston 8, LMU 1
The Golden Eagles got out to an early 4-0 lead after the first before things calmed down over the next two innings. Charleston found home plate again on a sacrifice fly in the third to extend their lead to 5-0.
The Railsplitters tallied their first run in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly from
Sam Mast that brought in freshman
Carson Boles.
Just two innings later, the Golden Eagles pushed their lead to 8-1 over LMU with a three-run eighth which Charleston held onto until the final out, capturing game one of the day.
Junior
Patrick Queener notched five strikeouts in four innings pitched in his first appearance on the season. Freshman
Ethan Bobo also made his first collegiate appearance, fanning four batters in five innings of work.
Sophomore
Cameron Bowen paced the Splitter offense has he finished the contest going 2-for-4 while Boles followed him, going 1-for-4 with a run scored.
Game 2 – Charleston 7, LMU 1
Game two got out to a different start as the duel came down to the pitching.
Alex Brewer got the starting nod for Lincoln Memorial, silencing the Golden Eagle offense for three innings. In the game's only triple, Charleston was able to take a 2-0 lead in the fourth.
The Railsplitters responded in the bottom of the fourth. Freshman
Carson Boles started the bottom of the frame with a single to left field before stealing second. Sophomore
Ryan Kurth squeezed a single through the left side that allowed Boles to make it home, cutting the UC lead to 2-1.
The Golden Eagles extended their lead by three in the fifth to push their lead to 5-1. Lincoln Memorial was able to hold down Charleston in the sixth, but the Golden Eagles scored two more in the seventh and took game two by a score of 7-1.
Brewer tossed four complete innings, striking out six along the way. Kurth lead the way offensively in game two as he recorded a 2-for-3 outing with a run batted in.
