AUGUSTA, Ga. – The No. 3 seed Lincoln Memorial University men's basketball program started out slow, but found their grove and connected from deep in order to defeat No. 6 seed Georgia College on Saturday afternoon at Christenberry Fieldhouse.
The Railsplitters found the net first, but the Bobcats went onto answer just moments later. The programs traded baskets in a physical first 10 minutes of the contest as Georgia College held just an 8-7 lead going into the first media timeout.
The Bobcats found their grove beginning at the 12:25 mark as they used a 9-3 run to create some separation, giving GC a 24-14 lead and continued to stretch their lead into the under-8-media timeout.
Coming out of the media timeout, Lincoln Memorial found their offensive rhythm, as the Splitters 7-2 run to even things up at 31 all at the 5:05 mark in the first. The Railsplitters were able to continue their offensive output as they took the lead into the half 40-26, over Georgia College.
The Bobcats closed in on the LMU lead coming out of the half, but Lincoln Memorial was able to match their high offensive energy at the end of the first half in the second, pushing their lead to 51-41 at the 14:53 mark. The shots started falling for Lincoln Memorial as the second half went on, the more the Splitter offense came alive. LMU pushed their lead to 20, 65-45, at the 10:56 mark and did not look back as the Railsplitters went onto secure the win over the Bobcats, 100-65.
Redshirt freshman
Me'Kell Burries paced the Railsplitters on the afternoon with a game-high 22 points on 7-of-12 from the field. The Newport, Ky. native also added eight rebounds and two assists to his line.
Jordan Walters followed suite with a 20-point performace on 7-of-7 from the field and added eight rebounds. Redshirt sophomore
Chase Rankin helped lead the offense with 16 points and dished out a team-high eight assists.

The Railsplitters advance to the Second Round of the 2022 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament and will see a familiar face as SAC foe and No. 2 seed Queens and LMU will meet again on Sunday, March 13 for a 5:00 p.m. tip-off with a spot in the regional championship at stake.
