Baseball Drops Doubleheader to Cavaliers

WISE, Va. – The Lincoln Memorial University baseball program got out to a good start, but UVA Wise was able to play sound defense as the Cavaliers went onto capture the doubleheader over the Railsplitters on Saturday.

Game 1 – UVA Wise 2, Lincoln Memorial 1

The Railsplitters kept up their high offense, knocking down two hits in the first inning and taking a 1-0 lead on an RBI groundout by Sam Mast bringing in Chris Hall. The Cavaliers answered in the first on sneaky play by UVA Wise getting the runner at third home before LMU pitching was able to get out of the inning.

Both programs' defenses stood tall throughout the contest with the work being done on the mound in game one. Game one did not see the third run until the fifth when the Cavaliers took the lead over LMU, 2-1, on an RBI fielder's choice.

UVA Wise was able to bring in their reliever to close out game one and did so as the Railsplitters were held scoreless over the home stretch with the Cavaliers taking game one, 2-1.

Game 2 – UVA Wise 6, Lincoln Memorial 5

It was the Cavaliers that got the bats going first in game two as they took an early 1-0 lead on a hit by pitch that advances all runners around before a single down the left field line was able to score two more, giving UVA Wise a 3-0 lead.

Lincoln Memorial was able to get the offense going in the second as Tucker Hagan went onto score on an RBI groundout by Brandon Parrott before the Cavaliers were able to lock down and get out of the inning.

UVA Wise found their run limit in the second as they extended their lead to 6-1 after two hits and a sacrifice fly by the Cavalier offense. The Railsplitters did not take long to cut the lead in half as the Blue and Gray saw Tucker Hagan knock a single to right field to bring in Cameron Bowen and Carson Boles.

The offense went quiet on both sides until the sixth when the Railsplitters tallied their fourth run of the contest on a wild pitch that allowed Hagan to race home, making it 6-4 Wise. Lincoln Memorial was able to make the Cavalier lead just one run, but UVA Wise was able to stop the LMU comeback to take game two, 6-5.
