HARROGATE, Tenn. – The No. 14-ranked Lincoln Memorial University softball program (17-5, 0-0 SAC) closed out non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at Dorothy Neely, sweeping the Wasps of Emory & Henry behind two more complete-game victories.
It was a premier feature afternoon for the standout Lady Railsplitters thus far, as
Sierra Hucklebee crushed two moonshots in game No. 1, while
Emma Frost reached the 10-win mark in just her eleventh start of the young campaign. Tusculum graduate transfer
Delilah Malczewski also achieved a complete-game victory in game No. 2, earning her fifth win of the season.
Game 1 – No. 14 Lincoln Memorial def. Emory & Henry 9-1.
The first matchup of the afternoon saw yet another run-rule victory for No. 14 LMU, as the Blue & Grey welcomed future SAC-opposition and the 10-5 overall Emory & Henry Wasps. The afternoon began and concluded with
Sierra Hucklebee bombs, as the power-hitting shortstop crushed her seventh and eighth homeruns in just 22 total appearances this season.
Six different Lady Railsplitters recorded at least one RBI in game No. 1, as veteran third baseman
Kelsie Tuggle smacked her second triple in consecutive-afternoons, in a monster fifth inning for LMU. Her sister, sophomore
Katie Tuggle in the DP position, followed immediately with a home run to push the lead out to six. Hucklebee's second-solo shot of the game in the ensuing inning stretched the lead out to seven, capped-off with a
McKenzie Henry clinching-RBI double to complete the run-rule victory over the Wasps.
Frost took to the circle back-to-back afternoons, giving up a few more hits than normal with the added workload of the schedule, but the standout junior still recorded a complete-game win. Frost struck out nine, while giving up five hits and no walks. The Wasps sole run of game No. 1 came unearned. Frost improved to the 10-win mark impressively before conference action has commenced.
Game 2 – No. 14 Lincoln Memorial def. Emory & Henry 8-3.
Game No. 2 Wednesday afternoon began similarly to Tuesday's second matchup against Lees-McRae, as the Wasps of Emory & Henry shook off any game one sorrows and quickly took a 2-0 lead out of the gate. The Lady Railsplitters again responded almost instantly, as the formidable squad within Dorothy Neely had the contest even by the bottom-of-the-second.
Similar to the first matchup of the day, the potent Lady Railsplitter offense saw six different bats produce an RBI, as freshman
Maddie Haskins provided the turning point in the bottom-half of the fourth inning. The freshman outfielder came to the plate with Blake and Pozzuto on-base, and put LMU two-to-the-good with a bases-clearing double to left-center. Hucklebee and Henry helped push across two additional insurance runs, as
Victoria Conley went yard for her first homerun of the year and LMU's eighth run on the afternoon.
Graduate
Delilah Malczewski shook off early trouble, and completed seven innings allowing three runs off just three hits. The lefty improved to 5-1 on the season, striking out three and walking one.
