GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Lincoln Memorial University continued their high octane offense into their matchup with Limestone on Saturday afternoon and were able to come away with a straight set win over the Saints, 3-0 (25-21, 27-25, 26-24).
The Saints came out firing in the first set as they raced out to a 12-5 advantage before the Railsplitters were able to close the gap, eventually taking the lead after an 8-3 run halfway through the first set, 18-17. Lincoln Memorial continued to extend their lead, but Limestone was able to calm the attacking Splitters down for a moment. With a 24-20 lead,
Johansen Negron sent the next attack down for the kill to give LMU the first set win, 25-21.
Limestone took control early in the second set, taking eight points of the first 10 scored in the second. Lincoln Memorial faced a 15-10 deficit but was able to take the reins and even the score up at 20-all. Needing extra points to decide the second set, the Saints took a 22-20 advantage, but Lincoln Memorial was able to take control and closing out the second set, 27-25.
The third set began with a multitude of point changes, as both programs saw a 14-all tie halfway through the third set. Limestone was able to take their first lead of the set at 21-20, but the Railsplitters went ahead 23-21 moments later. The Saints were able to knot the contest up at 23-all, but Lincoln Memorial was able to take the match win, 26-24, over the Saints.
