No. 20 Softball Score 16 in Sweep of Queens

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The No. 20-ranked Lincoln Memorial University softball program (27-7, 10-2 SAC) swept their fourth-consecutive South Atlantic Conference series, racking up 16 runs against the Royals of Queens Saturday afternoon.

Game 1 – No. 20 Lincoln Memorial defeat Queens 7-4.

The Lady Railsplitters jumped out of the gate Saturday afternoon to a 3-1 lead in game No. 1 of the day, thanks to two RBI off the bat of Katie Tuggle. The DP first doubled to right-center in the second, following up that at-bat with an RBI single. An ensuing Emma Webb RBI made matters worse for the Royals.

Although the Royals pulled the game within a run in the fifth with a homer, one final Katie Tuggle RBI sealed the game for LMU. Following a McKenzie Henry RBI single up the middle in the top-half of the seventh, Katie Tuggle hit a two-run bomb to left for the go-ahead winning runs.

Junior Emma Frost finished off the complete-game victory, moving to 15-3 on the year. Although the Royals smacked eight hits, Frost responded with eight K's herself for the win.

Game 2 – No. 20 Lincoln Memorial defeat Queens 9-1.

Game No. 2 of the day was all LMU, beginning in the second inning. Although the Lady Railsplitters first two runs of the day came unearned, the score line quickly got out-of-hand with two separate three run homers. Kelsey Hoskins three-run shot in the fourth, followed by Emma Webb's long ball down the right field line had LMU near the brink of the run-rule limit.

Senior Hayley Tamaro notched the second complete-game victory of the day for LMU, moving on to a commanding 6-0 record on the season. Tamaro only allowed one, while striking out four and walking just two.

UP NEXT…
The No. 20 Lady Railsplitters return to Dorothy Neely to take on the nationally-ranked Eagles of Carson-Newman on Wednesday, March 30. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. EST.
