Baseball Secures Midweek Win Over Flames

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial University got back in the win column with a midweek win over Lee, 9-5, on Tuesday afternoon at Lamar Hennon Field.

The Flames connected just once in the first as the bottom of the inning saw the Railsplitters lead off with a double from Chris Hall, but LMU could not drive in the run as the Lee pitcher was able to get out of the inning.

Lee was able to break the tie in the second as a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher allowed Hughes to give the Flames a 1-0 lead. The Flames extended their lead to 2-0 after a Bynum double down the left line brought in Perez.

A pitching change for Lee gave Lincoln Memorial a new set of pitches to swing at, and the offense was able to get going as the Railsplitters were able to get a runner in scoring position just two batters into the frame. Brandon Parrott got his first start of the year and was walked in his first appearance of the afternoon. Collin Goda was also walked sparking another visit to the mound and change by the Flames. Hall laid down another double, bringing all three Splitter runners, to give the Railsplitters a 3-2 lead.

The Flames found the lead again in the fourth as they were able to take a 4-3 lead after an RBI groundout by Majano.

The Railsplitters fell quiet till the sixth as a sacrifice fly by Parrott was able to bring in Keene to draw the score at 4 all going into the home stretch.

Hall led off the seventh with a triple to left and Tucker Hagan followed up with a single to right the allowed Hall to score. Carson Boles was able to lay down an RBI single to right to bring in Hagan, giving LMU a 6-4 lead. A pitching change by Lee allowed the Flames' defense to settle down and close out the sixth.

The Flames tried to claw into the lead, tallying one in the eighth to make it 6-5 LMU, but the Blue and Gray used a three-run eighth to seal the victory over Lee, 9-5.
