HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial University baseball program overcame a shaky start to cap together a hit parade in a 12-4 win over No. 7 Trevecca Nazarene on Tuesday afternoon at Lamar Hennon Field.
The Trojans were able to get their offense going early in the first as a Railsplitter error gave the visitors a runner on before an RBI double was able to put Trevecca up by one.
The Railsplitters did not take long to respond as
Chris Hall drew the walk to start the bottom of the first before swiping second base moments later. A sacrifice fly by
Carson Boles was able to bring home Hall to even the contest up.
Ryan Kurth then blasted the next pitch over the left field wall to put LMU on top before Lincoln Memorial extended their lead to 3-1 on an RBI single from
Kasten Harvey.
Trevecca was able to put together an outing in the second as they evened things up at 3-all on a two-run home run by Odom to right field. The Trojans went onto get runners in scoring position, but
Matthew Wrinkle was able to force the ground out to get out of the jam.
Lincoln Memorial crossed home plate again in the third as Harvey got on after notching a single up the middle before
Andrew Keene sent on into the corner as he circled the bases for an RBI triple to put LMU ahead 4-3.
The bats then came alive for the Railsplitters as the strength showed in seven hits over the fourth and fifth innings that saw the LMU lead jump from 4-3 to 11-3. A quiet sixth lead us into the home stretch.
The Trojans were able to tally a run in the seventh on an RBI double, but the Railsplitters were able to get out of the jam.
Lincoln Memorial went onto tag home just once more in the contest as
Cameron Powser took the second pitch over the left center wall for his fourth home run of the season to make it 12-4 LMU, and ultimately give the Railsplitters the victory over No. 7 Trevecca.
Ryan Franklin picked up his second win of the season after tossing 1.1 scoreless innings. The pitching rotation on the afternoon punched out 11 batters and forced five fly outs and nine ground outs.
