Nashville, TN – While the
Tasha Flynn era technically began last year, today was the first season opener under the direction of Coach Flynn and the schedule had the Lady Railsplitters traveling west to Nashville, TN to face the Trojans of Trevecca Nazarene.
Each team came out eager as they both missed on their first two shots in the first 24 minutes. The Trojans Skye Baun connected on the game's first goal using an assist from teammate Abbigail Legg to take the lead 1-0. LMU would have three more opportunities, but two shots missed the goal and Trojan goalie Delayna Holman saved the attempt by
Brooke Boucher and the first half would come to an end with Trevecca leading 1-0.
LMU's
Merel Houweling would push two shots in the first ten minutes of the second half, but both were too tall and again the lead would remain with Trevecca. Both goalies would stay busy in the second half combining for five saves. LMU would outshoot Trevecca 12-11 and out gun the Trojans on shots on goal by a 5-3 margin but none of LMU's attempts could find the nylon and it was Trevecca that would pick up the season opening win 1-0.
LMU will now have to wait a little longer for their first win of the season as they will travel to Greensboro, North Carolina on Wednesday, August 31
st to face Mount Olive in a neutral site contest.
