MALIBU, Calif. – The Lincoln Memorial men's volleyball team fell in three sets (25-18, 25-22, 25-20) in its season opener at No. 5 Pepperdine on Wednesday night.
Set 1: Pepperdine 25-18
The Waves got out to 7-3, 12-7 and 17-11 leads, but a
Cole Campisano kill followed by an ace from
Matthew Gentry got the visitors back to within three at 17-14. Pepperdine, however, would take 8 of the final 12 points to take the opening set. Campisano and
Shay Spadaro led the Lincoln Memorial offense with three kills each in the first frame.
Set 2: Pepperdine 25-22
An ace from Campisano tied the score at 7-7, while a later ace from
Justin Sharfenaker gave the visiting Railsplitters an 18-17 advantage, but the Waves again controlled the final segment of the set to clinch it. Campisano, Sharfenaker and Spadaro had three kills each in the second frame.
Set 3: Pepperdine 25-20
Pepperdine's early 4-0 spurt gave it an 8-4 lead, and the Waves would lead for the remainder of the set to clinch the match. Spadaro paced the Railsplitters with four kills in the final frame.

Pepperdine's Jaylen Jasper served up five aces.
