Harrogate, TN - The Lincoln Memorial field hockey team played host to the Wingate Bulldogs on Saturday morning. With temperatures lower than they'd been all year, and the wind whipping around, each team was eager to take the field for the 11:00 AM start.
The teams came out evenly in the first quarter, each matching the other's output. Things began to heat up in the second quarter as the Bulldogs were the first on the board with a goal from Audrey Proulx, assisted by Emma George, giving Wingate an early 1-0 lead. A mere six minutes later, Proulx found the back of the net for the second time during the contest on the assist from Kayleigh Haynes, giving the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead working into the back end of the game. In the 42nd minute of the game
Novy Schrijvers gave Wingate its final goal of the game, assisted by
Charne Steyn.
However, even though they trailed by three goals, the Railsplitters refused to lay over. In the final frame, Lincoln Memorial worked its way onto the scoreboard with a goal by Olivia Rosini, assisted by Katherine Brislin, drawing to within two goals of the Bulldogs, 3-1. However, time was not on the side of the Railsplitters. The game went final a few moments later, seeing the Bulldogs leave Harrogate with a 3-1 win in a very competitive game. Lincoln Memorial continues to show improvement, and continues to compete. Goalkeeper Ana Carney had another fantastic game, tallying 14 saves on 17 shots on goal.
The Railsplitters will be back in action on Tuesday as they play host to Lander. The match is slated to begin at 4:00 PM at the LMU Lacrosse Complex.
