Bristol, TN - The Lincoln Memorial women's basketball team started the 2023-2024 campaign on the right foot. Traveling to Bristol for the Conference Carolinas/South Atlantic Conference challenge, the Lady Splitters took on the Converse Valkyries in the first round, claiming a narrow 63-60 victory, moving to 1-0 on the season. Lincoln Memorial will take on King University on Saturday in Bristol, with tip off slated for 4:00pm.
Converse came out on fire against Lincoln Memorial, running up a 24-14 lead in the first period. However, in near mirror fashion, the Lady Splitters answered with an emphatic second quarter, outscoring the Valkyries 24-10, regaining the lead, and taking a 38-34 lead into the halftime intermission. As play resumed in the third, neither team found the offensive rhythm they had in the first half. Lincoln Memorial managed only four total points in the third period, allowing Converse to regain the lead heading into the final frame. With the Valkyries leading 45-42 heading into the fourth quarter, the Lady Splitters answered the bell, outscoring Converse 21-15 in the final stanza to take a 63-60 victory in their season opener.
Lauren Flowers led Lincoln Memorial with 14 points and seven rebounds. She was followed in scoring by
Jordan Maney with 13 points.
Geovana Rios nearly tallied a double double with eight points and 11 rebounds.
Chloe Savage nearly reached double digits, chipping in nine points.
Matty Tanner was great in the utility position, tallying seven points and five boards.
Alexa Smiddy and
Jamyah Winter added six points each to round out scoring for the Lady Splitters.
