Matthews, NC - The Lincoln Memorial men's soccer team traveled to Matthews, NC on Friday to take on top-seeded Wingate in the South Atlantic Conference men's soccer tournament semifinal. Earlier this season, the two teams failed to get the upper hand on one another, tying 2-2. This wasn't the case on Friday as the Railsplitters fell to the Bulldogs 2-1 in a tightly contested game in full time.
The Bulldogs were the first on the board as Tajay Grant found the back of the net in the 23rd minute with assist from Fabio Rodriguez to give Wingate the lead in the first half. The match remained relatively quiet until late in the contest. In the 84th minute, Zach Panagiotou netted Wingate's second goal of the game with the assist from All-SAC player Pablo Pozos. However, the Railsplitters wouldn't go out without a fight. With a tenacious attack late in the game, Lincoln Memorial was able to add one goal in the game as
Kriton Kiousis found the back of the net in the 88th minute of the match with an assist from
Ronan O'Mahony. The Bulldogs were able to hold on, taking a 2-1 victory and a berth in the SAC Final.
