Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball staves off Winston-Salem

Harrogate, TN - Following a win over King on Saturday, the Lincoln Memorial men's basketball team found itself back at home for a match up with the Winston-Salem State Rams. From the tip, it would appear that the Railsplitters could potentially run away with the game. However, Winston-Salem State refused to go away, making for an exciting game that went down-to-the-wire. Against King on Saturday, Railsplitter forward Martez Brown set a new career-high in rebounds with 18. He bested himself against the Rams, hauling in a new career-high 20 rebounds in the winning effort, seemingly unstoppable on the boards.

Both teams shot a good percentage in the first half. The Railsplitters connected on 48% of their shots from the floor, including a 50% mark from long range. The Rams also found the net plenty, connecting on 45% of attempts from the floor, including a 41% mark from deep, allowing the game to remain close, with Lincoln Memorial maintaining a slim 42-35 advantage at the half. The second half would remain tight, just like the first. Winston-Salem State came out tenacious to start the half, but were met with equal intensity from Lincoln Memorial. The teams continued to trade buckets with the Rams eventually taking their first lead of the game midway through the second half. However, the Railsplitters controlled the game on the glass, dictating the pace and style of play late in the game.

Aside from Brown completely dominating the glass, Lincoln Memorial's offense was extremely balanced, featuring four players in double digits. Me'Kell Burries and Osmar Garcia-Araujo led scoring with 14 points each. Jordan Walters added 13 points. He was followed by Jay Boyd with 11 points. Matthew Sells nearly crested double digits, scoring nine points in the game. Brown chipped in eight points, but hauled in 20 rebounds, a new career-high. Chase Rankin and Luke Bartemes added three points apiece to round out scoring for the Railsplitters.

Lincoln Memorial will be back in action on Saturday, hosting the Newberry Wolves, putting their NCAA leading 62-game winning streak on the line once again. The game will be a double-header with the women's game beginning at 2:00pm, and the men's game following at 4:00pm.
