Harrogate, TN - The Lincoln Memorial men's soccer team exacted its revenge on Anderson Saturday, avenging a loss from earlier this season, advancing to the South Atlantic Conference men's soccer tournament semi-final.
The Railsplitters wasted no time getting on the board, tallying their first goal in the fifth minute of the game as
Daniel Burko found the back of the net on the assists from
Arkin Ulusoy and
Kriton Kiousis. However, the Trojans responded quickly with a goal of their own in the ninth minute when Diego Jaramillo netted a goal with help from Julian Caro Sepulveda. It was the only goal of the game for Anderson. The match remained knotted at 1-1 until
Botond Skulka gave Lincoln Memorial a 2-1 lead in the 15th minute as Ulusoy tallied his second assist of the game.
The Railsplitters maintained a 2-1 lead through halftime intermission. With the Trojans increasing tenacity in the offensive zone in the late second half, Skulka managed his second goal of the game in the 88th minute thanks to an assist from
Ronan O'Mahony, drawing the game to its final score of 3-1.
Lincoln Memorial will play the winner of Wingate and Carson-Newman, which had yet to be determined as of press time. The semi-final game for the Railsplitters will be played on Nov. 10 in Matthews, NC at the Matthews Sportsplex. Kick-off is slated for 5:00 PM.
