JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The No. 8 Lincoln Memorial men's basketball team handled in-state rival Carson-Newman 84-69 Wednesday night at Holt Fieldhouse to sweep the regular season series.
The Railsplitters (21-2, 11-1 South Atlantic Conference) took a commanding 44-28 lead into halftime, but the Eagles (11-10, 5-6 SAC) whittled the deficit down to eight at 50-42 about six minutes into the half. Lincoln Memorial scored 11 of the next 14 points from there to build the lead back and would hold a double-digit for the remainder of the game.
Lincoln Memorial's offense was led by
Quay Kennedy (23 points, six assists and four rebounds) and
Jordan Walters (23 points, five rebounds) who got to the rim with ease all night.
Chase Rankin had a solid floor game, posting seven points, 10 assists, eight rebounds and four steals for the Railsplitters.
The visitors shot 51.7 percent (31-60) from the field, 42.9 percent (9-21) on 3-pointers and 86.7 percent (13-15) at the free throw line while limiting the host Eagles to just 33.3 percent shooting.
Lincoln Memorial will play at Wingate on Saturday at 4 p.m. for its second straight road game.
