@LMUbaseball Takes First Game with Lander

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial baseball team beat Lander 4-1 Friday afternoon at Lamar Hennon Field with the help of homeruns by Gavin Whitehurst and Ryan Kurth in the later innings.

The visiting Bearcats (1-3) got on the board first with a leadoff shot from left fielder Will McClellan, but Lincoln Memorial starting pitcher Patrick Queener would quickly settle down, allowing only the 1 run while scattering 5 hits across 7 innings of work to pick up the win.

The Railsplitters knotted the score at 1-1 with a sac fly from Whitehurst that scored Ryan Kurth. Two innings later, Whitehurst unloaded a 2-run bomb to right center for the game-winning RBI. Kurth added an insurance run with a solo shot to left center in the 8th inning.

David Brian Ellison collected the save for Lincoln Memorial after working the last two scoreless innings, while Lander's Nick Foray was tagged for the loss, giving up 3 runs in 5.2 innings pitched.

Lincoln Memorial and Lander will play two on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. in a series that was shifted from South Carolina to Harrogate just two days ago due to impending weather.
