@LMU_Softball Splits SAC Opening Doubleheader

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial softball team split a doubleheader with Emory & Henry Wednesday afternoon at Dorothy Neely Field to open South Atlantic Conference play.

The No. 18 Railsplitters (15-5, 1-1 SAC) won the first game 8-1 before falling to the Wasps (2-5, 1-1 SAC) 10-1 in the second contest.

Game 1: Lincoln Memorial 8, Emory & Henry 1
After the Wasps scored their only tally of the game in the Top of the 3rd inning, the Railsplitters responded with 3 runs in the bottom half, beginning with a Sierra Hucklebee solo homerun to left field. A Katy Pozzuto walk and Madison Henry fielder's choice would also drive in runs.

Katie Tuggle provided plenty of offensive production from there, hitting a 2-run homer in the 4th inning before adding a 2 RBI double in the 6th to give Lincoln Memorial a 7-1 edge.

Tuggle went 3-for-3 at the plate with 4 RBI and 3 runs scored, and Emma Frost (8-1) had 10 strikeouts as part of her 7 innings for a complete game. MaKayla Dowdy (1-1) was hit with the loss for the Wasps.

Game 2: Emory & Henry 10, Lincoln Memorial 1
Emory & Henry crossed the plate twice in the 1st inning, and that was all it would need thanks to a dominant pitching effort by Avery Adkins.

Adkins tossed 7.0 innings of 1-run ball with 8 strikeouts to earn her first win of the season (1-3). Lincoln Memorial managed 6 singles, but could not produce an extra-base hit off the Wasp righthander.

Victoria Conley took the loss (2-1) after allowing the pair of 1st inning runs on 4 hits.
