HARROGATE, Tenn. – The No. 20 Lincoln Memorial softball team beat Maryville 11-1 in the morning game and Ohio Dominican 9-1 in the afternoon game to cap off the season-opening LMU Invitational at Dorothy Neely Field with a 4-0 record.
Game 1: Lincoln Memorial 11-1 (5 innings)
The Railsplitters pushed across six runs in the 1
st inning, beginning with a 2 RBI single by
Sterre den Duijn that plated
McKenzie Henry and
Katie Tuggle, to gain control of the morning contest. Lincoln Memorial put another crooked number on the board with a 5-run 4
th inning which was punctuated by
Sierra Hucklebee's 2-run homerun to left center field.
Emma Frost picked up her second win and complete game of the young season, striking out 7 over 5 innings while allowing only one run.
Offensively,
Gracie Palmer,
Katy Pozzuto and den Duijn all collected two hits while den Duijn, Hucklebee and
Victoria Conley knocked in 2 RBI each for the Railsplitters.
Game 2: Lincoln Memorial 9-1 (5 innings)
It was all Lincoln Memorial after Ohio Dominican scored a run in the Top of the 1
st, as the Railsplitters scored 2 in the 1
st, 4 in the 3
rd and 2 in the 4
th before
Madison Henry scored on a wild pitch in the 5
th inning to finish the game. Hucklebee homered again to left field in the 3
rd inning for her second of the day, while Tuggle drove in two runs with a single up the middle in the 4
th inning.
Hayley Tamaro joined Frost in improving to 2-0 pitching in the circle, scattering 4 hits and allowing only 1 run across 5 innings of work while striking out 3.
Tuggle had 2 hits and 3 RBI against the Panthers, while her sister Kelsie and Pozzuto collected 2 hits as well. Hucklebee scored a trio of runs in the day's final game.
