No. 21 Lenoir-Rhyne Tops @LMU_Softball

HARROGATE, Tenn. – No. 21 Lenoir-Rhyne used a powerful offensive display to sweep a doubleheader over the Lincoln Memorial softball team on Monday afternoon at Dorothy Neely Field.
 
In a twinbill that was originally slated for April 7 but postponed due to projected rain, the Bears (33-9, 15-7 South Atlantic Conference) moved into sole possession of second place of the league standings with the wins over the Lady Railsplitters (30-19, 14-8 SAC).
 
Game 1: Lenoir-Rhyne 16, Lincoln Memorial 1 (5 innings)
 
The visitors scored 5 runs in the 1st inning and 3 in the 2nd to get out to an 8-1 lead before tacking on another 3 in the 4th and 5 in the 5th for the most runs scored against Lincoln Memorial this year. Third baseman Talon LaClair hit for the cycle and collected 10 RBI to lead the offensive outburst.
 
Morgan Beeler got the win (19-3) thanks to 5.0 innings of 1-run ball (0 earned runs) and 8 strikeouts while Emma Frost was hit with the loss to fall to 17-9.
 
Game 2: Lenoir-Rhyne 11, Lincoln Memorial 8
 
Trailing 5-1 after the Top of the 2nd inning, the Railsplitters scored 7 unanswered runs to take an 8-5 edge into the 7th inning, but the Bears rallied for 6 runs to secure the series sweep.
 
Madison Henry and Sterre den Duijn had RBI doubles and Kelsie Tuggle a pinch hit RBI single in the 3-run 6th inning to give Lincoln Memorial the lead. Both Madison and McKenzie Henry had a pair of doubles in Game 2.
 
Lenoir-Rhyne's Brooklin Heavner got the win in relief to improve to 4-1, as Lincoln Memorial's Hayley Tamaro threw 147 pitches and nearly went the distance but fell to 11-8 with the losing decision.
