HARROGATE, Tenn. – McKenzie Henry and
Hayley Tamaro had productive Senior Day performances to lead the Lincoln Memorial softball team to a doubleheader split against No. 17 Wingate on Friday afternoon at Dorothy Neely Field.
The Lady Railsplitters (31-22, 15-9 South Atlantic Conference) rode Henry's 4 RBI and Tamaro's complete game effort for a 4-1 win in Game 1 before the Bulldogs (40-11, 18-6 SAC) came back from down 2-0 in Game 2 to win 8-2 and clinch the SAC regular season championship.
Game 1: Lincoln Memorial 4, Wingate 1
The host Railsplitters got on the board early with a 1
st inning RBI double by Henry that scored her sister Madison. After Wingate tied the score at 1-1 in the 3
rd, McKenzie came to the plate with the bases loaded in the 5
th inning and cleared them on a double to the left center gap.
McKenzie Henry went 2-for-2 at the plate with the 2 doubles and 4 RBI plus a walk while catching Tamaro's complete game effort.
Tamaro (12-10) earned the win by scattering 7 hits and allowing 1 run (unearned) in her 7.0 innings of work, striking out a pair. Jillian Thomas (9-2) allowed 4 runs in 4.0 innings to suffer the loss.
Game 2: Wingate 8, Lincoln Memorial 2
Sterre den Duijn put the Railsplitters up 2-0 after a 2-run homer to left center in the 3
rd inning, but the Bulldogs scored the final 8 runs of the day to salvage the split.
Wingate's Raechel Cutcher improved to 12-5 in the pitchers' circle with 8 strikeouts in 7.0 innings, while Tamaro worked 5.0 more innings but allowed 5 runs to be hit with the loss. Tamaro worked the first 10 innings of the day without allowing an earned run between the 2 games.
