HARROGATE, TENN.- The Railsplitters would feed off the excitement of Senior Day to win both matchups against Emory & Henry in their doubleheader on Saturday. The series sweep has the Wasps ending their season at 12-35 (3-20 in SAC play). LMU finishes their regular season play with an overall record of 27-16 (13-11 in SAC).Â
Prior to the first pitch, the Railsplitters would honor four special contributors to the ball club in
Patrick Queener,
Andrew Keene,
Walker Hennon, and
Jared Hancock. Shortly after, in the first game of the doubleheader,
Carson Boles would continue off his momentum from yesterday's matchup with a double to open up scoring in the top of the first.
Kasten Harvey would score another run with a single of his own to make the lead 2-0.Â
The Wasps would quickly answer, however, scoring five runs in their half of the second, third, and fourth innings. Harvey would add another to his RBI column though in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 3-5.
Cameron Bowen would make it a one-run game with a solo home run in the sixth inning. Emory & Henry would score in the top of the seventh inning, but
Mitch Petzelt would hit a double to knock in an answering run. Bowen would walk up to the plate and hit yet another over the fence to score both himself and Petzelt, taking the lead 7-6.Â
A solo home run from the Wasps would have the Railsplitters come back to bat in the bottom of the ninth. A hit by pitch and a walk would give LMU baserunners to start the half-inning.
Chris Hall would take advantage with a walk-off single to give the team the series.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Emory & Henry would be the ones to strike first and take an early 1-0 lead.
Jared Hancock would single in the bottom of the fourth to knock in the tying run. A couple of miscues from the Wasp defense only a few pitches later would allow baserunner Petzelt to score and take the lead 2-1.Â
After evening the score back up at 2-2 in the top of the fifth, a repeat sequence of a defensive miscue leading to Petzelt scoring would put LMU up 3-2.
David Brian Ellison would enter the game in the sixth to get the save and close out the regular season on a positive note.Â
Lincoln Memorial now sits at sixth in the SAC standings and awaits the details of their SAC Tournament matchup.
