Harrogate, TN - Three days after falling to Mount Olive, the Lincoln Memorial field hockey team was back at in action on Tuesday, this time against Converse. Although the Railsplitters fell, they showed immense fight and continue to show dramatic improvement in only their second full season of competition.
LMU started off hot, scoring the first goal of the game just minutes into the match as
Haley White scored on an assist from
Katherine Brislin and Olivia Rosini. However, as quickly as it came, the jubilation was quickly met with a strike by the Valkyries just 49 seconds later, tying the game at one. Two minutes later, Converse struck again, taking a 2-1 lead. However, instead of hanging their heads and feeling sorry for themselves, the Railsplitters turned it up a notch.Â
Goalkeeper Ana Carney was an absolute force yet again as she refused to let the Valkyries' offense through. However, Converse found a crease in the 53rd minute and was able to extend its lead to 3-1. Still yet, Lincoln Memorial refused to lay over. Although the Valkyries added one final goal in the last few minutes of the final frame, the tenacity and grit exhibited by the Railsplitters is proof of their development. Converse went on to win the game 4-1.
With the loss, the Railsplitters moved to 0-7 on the season. They'll be back in action on Thursday, September 21st as they travel to Delaware, OH to take on Ohio Wesleyan in a non-conference clash.Â
