Box Score Harrogate, TN- Lincoln Memorial Men's Soccer would tie their first conference home game of the season against Newberry College on Saturday.Â
Both squads would stay even for most of the first half, keeping the score at 0-0. This would change in the 37th minute as a quick change in possession and skilled breakaway would allow
Daniel Burko to put the Railsplitters on the board first and take the 1-0 lead going into halftime.
LMU would stay aggressive coming out of the break, with
Emir Basar scoring a goal, assisted by
Botond Skulka, to extend the lead to 2-0. Just a few minutes later, the ball would come back to Burko from
Daniel Cruz to make it 3-0 LMU. Newberry would quickly find the back of the net themselves less than a minute later on a Joel Martins goal to close the gap to 3-1.
The Wolves would strike again shortly after to make it 3-2. Newberry would keep the attacking pressure, allowing Daniel Villalobos to even the game up at 3-3. With physicality and tensions of the game reaching its peak, an altercation would break out in the 80th minute leaving the Railsplitters forced to play two men down for the last ten minutes of the contest. Despite a couple of opportunities from both sides, neither would prevail and the game would end knotted.Â
The Railsplitters will be back in action this Wednesday, September 27th in Greeneville, TN to take on the Pioneers of Tusculum University for a 7:30 PM matchup.
