Harrogate, TN -- The Lincoln Memorial field hockey took to the field Tuesday staring down yet again
another highly nationally ranked opponent playing host to the 10th ranked Newberry Wolves.
The game remained scoreless throughout most of the first quarter before the Wolves were able to tally the first goal on a shot from Parker Keeler to take a 1-0 lead. Only one minute and ten seconds later, Newberry was able to extend its lead to 2-0 behind the stick of Tamsin Bangert with an assist from Marissa Plumer. The second quarter was similar to the first. Newberry added its third goal in the period on a shot from Hailee Moore to take a 3-0 lead.
Stembile Chikoore scored the final two goals for the Wolves, and of the game, with assists from
Myrthe Nienhuis and
Kaylee Bisset, bringing the game to its final score of 5-0 at the half.
Lincoln Memorial held Newberry off the scoreboard in the second half; another bright spot for the young program.
Ana Carney played another great game with 11 saves. The Railsplitters continue to improve. Lincoln Memorial's coaching staff adjusted exceptionally well in the second half, putting their players in great position for a very well-played second half of action against one of the best teams in the nation. The Railsplitters will be back in action Thursday as they travel to Greenwood, SC to take on Lander in a makeup game from earlier this season. The game is slated to begin at 5:00.
