Railsplitters Field Hockey falls to Kenyon, Rhodes to start season

Box Score Memphis, TN -- Following its inagural year of field hockey, Licoln Memorial showed a lot of promise to start the 2023 campaign. Traveling to Memphis to take on Kenyon and Rhodes, the Railsplitters put up a tough fight in each game, however, the results didn't go their way, falling 3-2 to Kenyon in overtime on Saturday, and falling 4-1 to Rhodes on Sunday.

In the first game, it took everything the Owls had to take down the Railsplitters. With the game knotted a 2-2 by the end of regulation, Kenyon was able to prevail in overtime 3-2. However, there was no time to dwell on the game as Lincoln Memorial prepared to face Rhodes the following day.

Rhodes came out swinging in the second game of the weekend, jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first quarter with two goals from Sophie Croci, assisted by Alder Dickey and Elinor West. The Lynx weren't finished there, extending the lead to 3-0 with another goal before halftime on a penalty shot from Grace Utz. Rhodes would add one more goal in the game in the 50th minute with a goal from RC Kugler, on the assist from Croci, extending the lead to 4-0. A few minutes later, in the 54th minute, Haley White connected on the Railsplitters' lone goal of the contest with an assist from Anella Rossi, bringing the game to its final score, 4-1.

Lincoln Memorial will look to shake off the rust on Wednesday against the SAC Preseason top-ranked team as they travel to Mount Olive to take on the Trojans, with the game set to begin at noon.
