Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Enis pours on 28 points, Brown sets new SAC rebounding record as Railsplitters thrash Indians

Salisbury, NC - The Lincoln Memorial men's basketball team was on the road Saturday against in-conference opponent Catawba, seeking its second straight victory. Catawba was coming off of an overtime loss to Wingate and seeking a win in conference play. The Railsplitters entered the game with an overall record of 10-5, with a 4-2 mark in conference play. The Indians entered the game with a record of 7-2 and a 5-1 mark in conference play.

Throughout the first half, it would appear that the game would go down to the wire. The teams traded buckets throughout the first half, seeing Catawba take a slim 35-31 lead at the half. Marred by 15 turnovers in the first half, Lincoln Memorial relied on its stiff defense to stay in the game. The Railsplitters limited the Indians to a 33% mark from the floor in the first half, including an 18% mark from long range on just 2-of-11 attempts from deep. Although turnovers were bountiful, Lincoln Memorial was able to remain in the game thanks to defense and knocking down big shots. The Railsplitters connected on 40% of their shots from the floor in the first half, including a 50% mark from long range on 5-of-10 attempts.

To start the second half, Martez Brown got things started with an emphatic flush, a play that was symbolic of how the rest of the game would play out for both teams. The first few minutes were eerily reminiscent of the first half, as the two teams traded buckets. With the score at 55-55, and 11:47 on the clock, the Railsplitters began to turn it on. Back-to-back three pointers from Me'Kell Burries and Luke Bartemes saw Lincoln Memorial's lead grow to 61-55 with 11:15 remaining in the game. From there, the Railsplitters dominated the game in every fashion imaginable, outscoring the Indians 34-12 in the final 11 minutes of game time, securing a 95-67 victory. It was Lincoln Memorial's sixth game of the season with 90 points or more.

The Railsplitters absolutely torched the nets in the second half of the game, going from a respectable 40% from the floor in the first half, to an otherworldly 64% from the floor in the second half, including an absolutely absurd 71.43% from long range. Lincoln Memorial actually shot better from the floor and the three point line than it did from the free throw line (61.54%).

During the game, new personal records were set, a conference record was set, and a school record was broken for the Railsplitters.

Freshman Wes Enis had already been making an impact for Lincoln Memorial through his four games played, but made a statement heard throughout the conference with his performance against Catawba. The young phenom led the Railsplitters in scoring with 28 points. He connected on 8-of-9 three point attempts, and 8-of-11 of his total shots for the game, all personal bests. Martez Brown continued to prove why he is the most dynamic rebounder in the country, hauling in a school record-tying, and South Atlantic Conference record 28 rebounds to accompany 16 points, giving Brown his 10th double-double of the season. Chase Rankin played another well-rounded game as the team's second leading scorer with 21 points. He didn't miss a shot from beyond the arc all night, and was 7-of-10 from the floor. He also added six assists and four rebounds. Burries added 17 points, connecting on over 50% of his shots from the floor throughout the game. Jordan Walters added seven points, six rebounds, and six assists in just 23 minutes of action. Luke Bartemes and Elijah Bredwood added three points each with one three pointer made apiece.

Lincoln Memorial will be back in action on Jan.17 on the road against Mars Hill.
