Field hockey drops OT thriller to Lander

Harrogate, TN - Two days after a heartbreaking loss against Belmont Abbey, the Lincoln Memorial field hockey team was back in action at home on Wednesday, playing under the newly installed field lights for the first time in program history. The Railsplitters traveled to Lander for the season opener, playing the Bearcats to within a single goal, inevitably falling 2–1.

Wednesday's game had a very similar feel. Both defenses played phenomenally throughout the game, limiting the other's offense. The Bearcats were the first on the board late in the game when Iris Van Der Does scored a goal, bringing the score to 1-0. However, just 22-seconds later, Anella Rossi tallied a goal for Lincoln Memorial, knotting the score at 1-1.

The score remained tied at the final buzzer, forcing the game into overtime. Three minutes into the extra period, Lincoln Memorial was assessed a foul on a shot, resulting in a penalty stroke for Lander. The Bearcats' penalty stroke was successful as Van Der Does added her second of the game, leading to a 2-1 victory for Lander.

With the loss, Lincoln Memorial moved to 0–8 on the season with an 0–8 mark in conference play. The Railsplitters will be back in action on Saturday at home against Newberry with a start time of 11 AM.
