Game Recap: Field Hockey | | John Dunn

Field hockey's three-game winning streak snapped at Coker

Harrogate, TN - Riding a three game winning streak, a huge confidence boost, and a wave of momentum, the Lincoln Memorial field hockey team was back in action on Wednesday on the road at Coker. The game was originally scheduled for late September, but was postponed until Oct. 30 due to hurricane Helene.

Since Oct. 20, the Railsplitters have tripled their program win total. Winners of its last three, including back-to-back conference match ups, Lincoln Memorial was seeking to best its own program record and extend its winning streak to three while simultaneously winning its first conference road game in program history. The Railsplitters hadn't given up a goal in 15 quarters of action. However, that changed on Wednesday night.

The home standing Cobras wasted no time in making a statement, scoring a goal in the first 2 and a half minutes of the game on the stick of Skylar Ponik with an assist from Kaiya Sabur. However, with nearly all of the Railsplitters' games being decided by such slim margins, they'd been in this situation before and didn't panic. Although it took some time, Lincoln Memorial was able to respond, tying the game at 1-1 just before the half as Olivia Rosini found the back of the cage with an assist from Anella Rossi.

Tying the game at the half provided the Railsplitters with a spark and they used it to score fast in the second half, scoring in the first three minutes of the second half, taking a 2-1 lead on a goal from Katherine Brislin with an assist from Finja Wunner. However, the Cobras failed to lay over as well, tying the game with just over a minute remaining in the game on the goal from Aleena Januchowksi with an assist from Kaiya Sabur, her second of the night. The game sat rested at 2-2 at the end of regulation.

Wednesday's game marked the third game of the season that went into overtime, or further, for the Railsplitters this season. The game prior, against Wingate, went into a shootout scenario, seeing Lincoln Memorial emerge victorious. However, Coker was able to find the goal first in overtime, snapping the Railsplitters' three game winning streak.

Lincoln Memorial will be back in action on Halloween on the road at Newberry with the game slated to begin at 6 PM.
