Railsplitters cruise past Pioneers, sweep regular season series

Greeneville, TN - Four days following a decisive home win over then-conference-leading Wingate, the Lincoln Memorial men's basketball team was back in action on the road at Tusculum, looking to sweep the regular season series and avenge an 80-78 upset from last year's trip to Greeneville. Lincoln Memorial entered the contest with an overall record of 18-6 overall, with a 12-3 mark in conference play. The Railsplitters were also announced as a team under consideration for a regional tournament bid as of Feb. 18. Tusculum entered the game with an 11-11 record overall, including a 9-7 mark in conference play.

Eight of his twelve first half points came from the charity stripe, connecting on 80% of his attempts, going 8-for-10 from the line. Sells' mission was to physically melt the nets from the rim, nearly succeeding with four first half threes. He connected on an incredible 80% of his attempts from long range, going 4-of-5 from deep. The Railsplitters took control from the start, and never surrendered the lead in the first half, leading by as many as 13 points. With contributions from Chase Rankin, Wes Enis, Jordan Walters, and Osmar Garcia-Araujo, Lincoln Memorial maintained a 42-34 lead at the half.

Tusculum scored the first five points of the second half to cut into the deficit However, Lincoln Memorial responded with a quick 13-0 run to take a 55-39 lead in the first five minutes of the second half. Brown, Jordan Walters, and Enis began to take over the second half as the Railsplitters' lead grew to as many as 20 points. As the conference's leading assist man, Rankin continued to dole out assist after assist as Walters, Brown, and Enis knocked down shot after shot. The score swelled to 81-63 in the blink of an eye with just over two minutes remaining in the game. The Railsplitters went on to secure an 85-71 victory, their fourth in a row.
