Railsplitters fall to St. Leo in Georgia

Rome, GA - One week after working its way back into the win column on the road at Emmanuel, the Lincoln Memorial men's lacrosse team was back in action on Saturday in Rome, GA taking on the Saint Leo University Lions at Berry College.

Saint Leo came out fast against Lincoln Memorial in Saturday's game, taking a quick 2-0 lead. However, the Railsplitters responded with four straight goals to take a 4-2 lead. Gavin Reid delivered the first goal for Lincoln Memorial at the 8:36 mark of the first half, assisted by Cole Morris. Francis O'Hara was the next player to score, netting an unassisted goal with just under 6:00 remaining in the opening stanza. John Lombel and Rhodes Conroy then delivered back-to-back unassisted goals to give the Railsplitters a 4-2 advantage at the end of the first.

The Lions answered quickly to start the second, scoring a goal in the first 35-seconds. However, another goal from Conroy kept the margin at two goals in favor of Lincoln Memorial 5-3. Saint Leo tied it up at 5-5 with a pair of back-to-back goals. Daniel Pearl broke the deadlock with an unassisted goal at the 3:41 mark of the second period, giving the Railsplitters a 6-5 lead. However, the Lions would then score six straight unanswered goals that spanned from the third quarter to midway through the fourth quarter. With a firm 11-6 lead, Morris gave Lincoln Memorial its final goal of the game. The Lions added another goal in the waning minutes of the game to bring the score to its final of 12-7.

With the loss, Lincoln Memorial moved to 3-3 on the season. The Railsplitters open conference play against Limestone next Saturday, Mar. 2, at 4:00 PM.
