Harrogate, TN- Lincoln Memorial played in their last games of the Abe's Invitational on Sunday. They would fall to Saginaw Valley State in the first game by a score of 5-13. The second would end in a to Clarion.
The first game would feature SVSU striking first, putting up five runs in the top half of the inning. Contact from
Sterre den Duijn and
Katy Pozzuto would cross two in the bottom half of the inning to make the game 2-5. Saginaw Valley State would keep the bats going though, gaining several hits and forcing the Lady Splitters into a couple of errors to leave the team down 2-13 going into the bottom of the fifth. A
Hanna Bogoski double, den Duijn single, and sacrifice fly from
Katie Tuggle would let the Railsplitters put three more back on the board but it would not be enough to extend the game past five innings.Â
The second game against Clarion would flip the script, with LMU being the first to score as den Duijn and Pozzuto would both add to their RBI column to plate two runs. Clarion would use an inning at a time to gain runs, leaving the Lady Splitters down 2-4 going into the bottom of the 5th. It would be Pozzuto again to step up and knock in the tying run. She would score later in the inning as well as
Madison Henry would make contact to force Clarion into an error to give the team the lead, 5-4. The Golden Eagles would be quick to reverse the score, scoring two more to retake the lead in the top of the sixth. LMU would not lay down, however, loading the bases in the bottom half of the inning to reapply the pressure. Who else to step up to the plate than the hero of the day?
Katy Pozzuto. A grand slam would allow the Lady Splitters to go back ahead and go on to win the game. The win improves
Victoria Conley to 3-1 on the season and gives
Margot van Eijl the save.
LMU moves to 11-11 on the season and will return to action on Wednesday, February 28th, for another home doubleheader against Lander.Â
