Emory, VA - The Lincoln Memorial women's basketball team was back on the hardwood Wednesday night following a win on the road at Newberry, seeking their third straight win, this time on the road at Emory & Henry. When the two teams met earlier this season, Lincoln Memorial took and 82-72 victory at home. The Lady Splitters entered the game with a 17-7 record, including a 12-6 mark in SAC play. The Lady Wasps were 10-16 overall entering the game, with a 5-13 mark against conference opposition.
Lincoln Memorial started the game white hot from beyond the arc, with its first 15 points coming from long range.
Alexa Smiddy drained three threes while
Lauren Flowers drained two, with neither missing a shot, seeing the Lady Splitters take an early 15-8 lead. Lincoln Memorial outscored Emory & Henry 11-10 for the remainder of the period to maintain a 26-18 advantage after the first horn. The second period was much more competitive, with the Lady Splitters narrowly outscoring the Lady Wasps 14-12 to maintain a 40-30 advantage at the half.
Already with a 10 point lead, Lincoln Memorial came out with the pedal to the metal in the second half, outscoring Emory & Henry 14-8 to further extend the lead to 54-38 halfway through the third. The teams would match one another 5-5 over the final half of the third quarter, allowing the Lady Splitters to maintain a 59-43 lead heading into the final frame. The teams struggled offensively in the early minutes of the fourth quarter. Lincoln Memorial eventually figured out the offense and began to extend its lead as the score swelled to more than 20 points at 68-46 with just over three minutes remaining. From there, with the game well in-hand, the Lady Splitters went on to secure a 76-53 victory.
The Lady Splitters were led in scoring by
Alexa Smiddy with 21 points, including six made three pointers. She also added five rebounds.
Jordan Maney added 19 points.
Geovana Rios added 17 points and seven rebounds.
Lauren Flowers tallied eight points.
Matty Tanner chipped in five points.
Zyan Smith,
Chloe Savage, and
Jazzmen Robinson added two points apiece to round out scoring for Lincoln Memorial.Savage led the team in rebounding, hauling in eight rebounds.
