Harrogate, Tennessee – The Lincoln Memorial University team hosted the No. 13 Lee University men's tennis team Wednesday afternoon at the LMU Indoor Tennis Facility. The Railsplitters lost 3-4 and fell to 6-3 on the season.
The doubles matches began with Alexandru Giurea and Sergio Sebastian Boneta Aranzeta competing in the No. 1 slot against Lee's Faria and Krohn Da Silva. The Lincoln Memorial University duo secured a victory in a 7-5 tiebreaker. Harper Mills and Thom Hermans also clinched a win in another 7-5 tiebreaker in the No. 2 doubles match. However, Mateo Rivera Carbaja and Luca Pavan lost 4-6 against Wihan van der Merwe and Jordi Dasi, concluding the doubles competition.
Lee University took the lead with a 6-3, 6-4 defeat of Alexandru Giurea in the No. 1 singles match, while William Jonsson lost in the No. 2 singles with scores of 6-4 and 6-3.
Radu Florea's victory in the No. 3 singles match with scores of 6-3, 6-4 helped Lincoln Memorial University regain the lead and come within one win of securing the team victory. Thom Hermans also contributed with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Yike Liu.
In the decisive singles match to determine the team winner, the Flames initially won the first set 6-1, but Franco Battaglino fought back and claimed the second set 6-2. Ultimately, Battaglino fell short in the three-set match, losing 6-2 in the final set.
Harper Mills faced a tough challenge in the No. 6 singles match, starting with a 6-2 deficit against Viktor Yanev. However, Mills managed to force a third set with a 6-3 score in the second set. Yanev ultimately leveled the team score at 3-3 by winning the third set 6-4.
The Railsplitters will open SAC play against Anderson University on March 3rd on the road.
